at The National Wallace Monument

The National Wallace Monument, built to commemorate Scottish patriot and martyr Sir William Wallace, stands out as one of the most distinctive landmarks on the Stirling skyline.

The Victorian building – designed by J. T. Rochead – incorporates distinctive elements of ancient Scottish architecture, with an overall Scottish Baronial appearance. It stands tall and proud on the Abbey Craig, outside the city, and it overlooks the scene of Scotland’s victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

Every day, The National Wallace Monument welcomes visitors from across the globe – and it can now provide the most spectacular setting for your special event.

Holding an event at the Monument presents organisers with an opportunity to provide guests with a truly memorable occasion – one they will cherish for a long time. The property managers will offer assistance and support throughout the planning stages and during the event itself to ensure the event will be a success.

The National Wallace Monument features:

  • A unique and recognisable building
  • 3 exhibition galleries telling the story of Sir William Wallace
  • The Wallace Sword
  • 360 degree views from the Monument’s Crown
  • Fantastic photo opportunities
  • Friendly and helpful service
  • Professional managers to help create a successful event

The Monument is open to the public every day as a visitor attraction, and is therefore available for events only outside the normal opening times.

The recommended maximum number of guests (including organisers and/or hosts) is 40.

Organisers should be aware that there is normally no seating provided for guests within the Monument.

The National Wallace Monument is a fantastic location for engagements and intimate wedding ceremonies. Both religious and civil wedding ceremonies can take place at the Monument.

Most weddings take place in The Hall of Heroes which is on the second level of the Monument’s tower.  This room is home to the legendary Wallace Sword, and to the busts of 16 Scottish Heroes including King Robert the Bruce, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Burns.  Wedding ceremonies can also take place inside in The Hall of Arms, outside on The Crown (at the top of the Monument) or on The Terrace (the paved area immediately outside the main entrance to the Monument), if the weather is suitable.

The hire charge for weddings at The Monument includes the use of the high quality replica of Sir William Wallace’s famous broadsword – which can provide a special touch for a memorable day.  The sword may be used in conjunction with the wedding ceremony, for photography, or for cutting a wedding cake.

Costs can vary depending on the event, please make an enquiry for an estimate. Email your enquiry to or call 01786 472140 and ask to speak to the Duty Manager.

Each level of the Monument is accessed by a narrow spiral staircase with 246 steps to the top, and this must be kept in mind when planning your event, to ensure that it is suitable for all guests attending the event.

The entrance to the main Car Park for the Monument is on Hillfoots Road.  From that point a courtesy mini-bus service is provided to transfer guests to the Monument, departing from outside the Visitor Reception Building.

The Visitor Reception Building can be used by event organisers for an additional fee to provide a Welcome and Registration point, or as a Reception facility for guests, and toilet facilities are available within this building.

Guests can also choose to walk from the Car Park to the Monument, although the pathway is steep in places.
