Pride Month

Pride is celebrated globally each year in the month of June. It is held in June as this was the month the Stonewall riots erupted in New York, triggering the rise of LGBTQ+ rights movement across the world.

The month is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

Light up for Pride

2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the Pride movement in the UK – and in support of this year’s celebrations, the Monument will be illuminated in its rainbow lighting display on Wednesday 1st June.

Raising the flag

We will also be raising the rainbow Pride flag at the Monument for the month of June to help build awareness of LGBTQ+ history and culture.
