Honouring International Workers’ Memorial Day – The National Wallace Monument Shines Purple
On the 28th of April International Workers’ Memorial Day is a day dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, been injured, or suffered illness as a result of their work. The campaign is a collective commitment to safer workplaces, stronger protections, and the well-being of every worker.
This year, The National Wallace Monument will join landmarks across the UK in lighting up purple, the colour of remembrance, solidarity, and hope. As one of Scotland’s most iconic towers, the Monument stands as a powerful symbol of courage and resilience, qualities reflected in the workers and families honoured on this day.
By illuminating the Monument, we show support to trade unions, communities, and organisations who continue to advocate for safer working conditions and that every worker deserves to return home safe, supported, and protected.
On 28 April, International Workers’ Memorial Day remembers the past, reflects on the present, and commits to a future where workplace harm is never accepted as inevitable.
