The National Wallace Monument is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.

During the winter period the opening of the Monument can be affected by adverse weather. As a result, the Monument’s opening times may change at short notice and there may be a disruption to the services we provide for visitors.

Arrival at the Monument

There is free parking and it’s provided for all visitors to The National Wallace Monument. Visitors can then walk to the Monument (15-20 minutes) through the wooded slopes of The Abbey Craig, or use the shuttle bus service (5 minutes).

Admission tickets can be purchased online or from inside the Monument itself. The ticket gives you access to the four upper levels within the Monument (each accessed by a 246-step narrow and spiral staircase), with three exhibition galleries, and The Crown, from which visitors can enjoy panoramic 360° views. Last admission to enter the Monument is one hour prior to closing.

By visiting us, you are contributing to the conservation of The National Wallace Monument as a landmark visitor attraction in Scotland. With this support we are able to continue celebrating and protecting the heritage of William Wallace, helping everyone to enjoy it now and in the future.

Free Shuttle Bus Service

The complimentary shuttle bus, with limited capacity, departs regularly from the Bus Stop in the Car Park, and the journey takes around a few minutes to reach the tower.

During busy periods, the wait time for the shuttle service can increase. Walking to the Monument, on average, will take 15-20 minutes.

The shuttle bus is not in operation from 1:00pm until 1:30pm – and visitors can either wait or walk the woodcarving trail from the Car Park to the Monument during this time.

Only assistance dogs are allowed on the shuttle bus.

The shuttle bus provided is a free complimentary service to all. There may be instances when the shuttle bus will not operate due to circumstances beyond our control.

Woodcarving Trail

The woodcarving trail is designed to take visitors on a journey through time to learn more about Stirling’s fascinating history, from the ice age through to the building of the Monument.

The 15 to 20 minute route ascends the Abbey Craig and takes visitors from the Car Park to the entrance of the Monument. Visitors should be aware that the pathway is steep and uneven in some areas.
